Beginner Air Sequence

Beginner Air Sequence

About Air Sequence

Air is the fourth of the 5 sequences, designed to lighten the body and spirit as we move out of the winter and into the spring. In Ayurvedic terms, Air (Vaayu ), the wind, is “backdrop” of our environment (the surroundings that we may not always notice). Air is the second lightest element next to ether, in that we can perceive it both visually, and tactilely (in tree branches moving in the wind or in the feel of it on our skin). The intention with which we practice this sequence is to move the stale energy of winter, and bring a lightness to the being, increasing mobility and movement through all our systems.

Simon Borg-Olivier demonstrates the Intermediate Level Air Sequence.

Interactive Lecture: “Dynamic Relaxation and Rejuvenation”

This lecture describes the most effective way to practice physical yoga so that the best benefits can come in terms using the postures and movements of your body in the practice to enhance circulation while minimising stress, increase strength and flexibility while breathing less and rejuvenate and relax while exercising.

Introductory Beginner Practice

This introductory sequence, which takes only 3 minutes to complete in its final form, offers a very effective short practice. It is suitable for almost any reasonably healthy person who has not done yoga before. It does not require any special strength or flexibility beyond simply lifting the arms above your head.

Complete Beginner Practice

This sequence further introduces the Yoga Synergy style with a complete beginner level led practice. It is suitable for people who have satisfactorily completed the introductory sequence. Ideally you should be able to sit comfortably on the floor and get up without help, be able to put some weight on the arms and be able to balance on one leg.

Introductory Lecture

The complete beginner practice is preceded by a 21 minute lecture that explains how to appropriately modify the postures such as the ‘push up’ and the ‘dog’ poses in a way that gives maximum benefits to strengthening and freeing your spine, with minimum effort or risk.
