Emily Odillo Maher
What makes Yoga Synergy unique is our carefully constructed sequences and strong emphasis on correct body alignment. Ensuring yoga is practiced safely is really important to me because I come from a sports-oriented background. Often the little things that can make a big difference – like bending your knees slightly to protect them if they hyperextend, or following a set of back bends with forward bends to release the lower back. You only have one body; you need to look after it.
I became a yoga teacher because I want to help others experience the same inner joy yoga brings to my life. Having been part of the corporate world for eight years, I know how easy it is to get caught up in the same chaotic routine. Life is all about balance and creating time to reconnect with your true self every day. Practicing yoga regularly and paying attention to your breath is a great way to calm and re-energise yourself. Yoga is for everyone – any age or fitness level … just bring an open heart.
What I enjoy most about yoga is that as soon as I step on my mat, it’s as though nothing else matters. The thoughts, worry and stress that usually consume the mind disappear. I find myself slowing down and becoming more fully aware and present. With regular yoga practice, I find myself living a more calm and peaceful life. Life can be so fast, if we let it – for me, it’s about learning to stop, sit back, smile, and enjoy the moment.
